One day, Medusa (who has entirely forgotten about being told what Valentine's Day is, and that a Certain Someone Forgot) finally decides that Lucifer Needs To Get Out More, and goes to Milliways to kidnap him.

Sam is very much not adverse to this kidnapping, possibly because Medusa is wearing a very pretty bodice.

Beyond Milliways' front door is an open area as would grace any farm; chickens in their house, a couple of goats stoped from their quest to eat the vegatables by a cunning wall, a shed and the peach-coloured wall of Medusa's own garden. There is another low building, too low to be anything but built partly under ground.

It's late afternoon, and actually fairly cool - autumn does that, even in North Africa.

And while she would give him a grand tour of the outside, she does have things cooking in the kitchen, so she leads him down some steps and around the corner. The kitchen is a large cavern, doubling as their main living space, and it is back up against the bathhouse. No sense in wasting heat, after all.

There is a large table in the middle, a working table, and it's a working kitchen for three people who love food and eat a lot.

"Welcome to my home."

"Ah-huh."

He smiles at her sunnily.

"You're much prettier than the view, I can't help that."

[mycursedface]

"Yes, but you see me lots in the bar. That doesn't..." She gestures. "Decrease the notice?"

[necessary_child]

Immediately, "Nope!"

He's still outrageously smug at walking into Guppy's wedding with the most beautiful girl in the room on his arm.

[mycursedface]

Medusa facepalms.

Men!

[necessary_child]

It's a very expressive facepalm.

Sam laughs. "Yeah, but we're worth it, right?"

[mycursedface]

"Arrogant thing, aren't you?"

But she's having to bite back a grin as she says it.

[necessary_child]

He kisses her cheek again, laughing. "Just confident."

[mycursedface]

"You keep kissing me, I'm gonna take it as a suggestion."

[necessary_child]

"And oh, what a tragedy that would be."

Sam is straight-faced.

So, Medusa kisses him back, sweet and lingerly and leaving no doubt as to how she feels about suggestions.





Then she says,

"But not before dinner."

Sam smiles up at her when they break, slow and bright.

"Well," softly, "Energy is important."

[mycursedface]

"Yes. Um."

One red Gorgon.





"Also, Eno and Ali would kill me if I burnt things."

[necessary_child]

"That'd be bad," Sam agrees. "I much prefer you alive. Are they about, then?"

[mycursedface]

"Asleep in their rooms. We...kinda keep odd hours around here."

[necessary_child]

"How come?"

[mycursedface]

She half-extends her wings to draw attention to them.

"Do you know how hot metal gets in the sun? And it's hard to hunt things, or keep out of sight, during most of the day, so we're up and about and doing things at night, or in the early morning or late evening. Mostly."

Ooooh, shiny.

...Yes, it's possible Sam has Priorities. Definitely with a capital P.

"You should've got a matching set for the three of you of what you got to hide yours."

[mycursedface]

"We do." Dry, very dry.

"It's...it'd be like you having to walk around with your arms tied to your sides. It's bearable, but not something you'd want to go for long periods doing."

[necessary_child]

Sam nods understanding, and kisses her nose. "I see. Poor Meda."

[mycursedface]

"But on the plus side....I can fly."

[necessary_child]

He laughs a little. "Yep. Lucky little monster."

[mycursedface]

There is no smug here.





Okay, there is.

"I am. Want to see my treasure?"

[necessary_child]

There would never be smug!

Except for when there is.

Sam grins. "Always."

Shiiiiiiny.

[mycursedface]

Medusa beams at him, and leads him out of the cavern. Down the tunnel, turn a corner and she picks up an oil-lamp. Down some steps, and there. The oil-lamp isn't perfect, but there is enough light to see that there is a lot of treasure - chests, coins, fabric, gold and silver and other metals. Just hints of it, of course, but the Gorgons have been collecting an awfully long time.

"If you want to see better, um...can you conjure up enough light?"
