I dream of wayward gulls and rare moments of winter sun

Medusa and sleep are two things that often do not get along. Even if her dreams are free of nightmares now (and isn't she glad of that - even when she didn't wake up screaming, she'd be whimpering and moaning and causing a scene) it's still...
I walked beside the evening sea
Strange.
And dreamed a dream that could not be;
She mostly sleeps during the day, when it's safe. She sleeps with her arms curled around Sam's pillow when she can't get Sam himself, face buried and snakes lying this way and that. Tangled up in the sheets, wings out, and for such a small person, Medusa takes up a lot of room.

The waves that plunged along the shore
And she dreams. She dreams of the ocean that is her home, of the cliffs and clouds. She dreams of the waves giggling with the voices of her sisters and she dreams of her triplets in the new and empty world in which they'd been born. She dreams of babbling in their own language and trying to pull Stheno's hair as Euryale aims for her feet and-

Said only: "Dreamer, dream no more!"
And when she wakes up, blearily shoving the pillow onto the ground, she can't remember anything. Dreams are like that, sometimes.

Medusa doesn't purr with pleasure so much as hiss, a soft, continuous sound that is disconcerting if you aren't used to it.

And sadly for Sam, all further explorations of his neck by her mouth are interrupted by a knock at the door, followed by impatient chittering.

"Breakfast!" Medusa glees, rolling off her boyfriend to get the door.

Sorry, Sam. You have been ditched for rice and curry and na'an bread.

Sam does not approve. Sam does not approve a great deal.

But, on the other hand, food.

"I feel so, so used," he informs her mournfully.

Stealing curry!

(Sneaky Sam are sneaky.)

Medusa doesn't appear to be listening, taking the heavily-ladened tray from the rat with a gracious smile and sliding it onto his desk.

"Desk big enough, or a sheet over the floor?" She asks, glancing at him.

Sam despairs, he really does.

"Iiii think the floor. Picnic!"

Sorry, Sam. It's food. She's a Gorgon. Theirs is a love to consume (ahem) all others.

"Groovy."

She rumages around in a draw, finds a clean sheet and spreads it over the floor. Leaving him to neaten it (it's not fair if she does all the work, of course), the Gorgon brings the tray down and starts to set out the dishes.

Gracefully - somewhere, somewhen in her madness, she picked up a sparkling set of table manners.

He had noticed, yep.

Sam flaps a hand at the sheet, straightening it. Well, more or less straightening it, anyway.

"Where'd you pick that up, anyway?"

He means the slang, not the manners.

"Cousin Eirene," she explains, smoothing out her sundress for a moment and gesturing for him to sit.

"I've not met her," Sam says, sitting down with legs curled. "Is she in the bar?"

[mycursedface]

"Oh, yes. She's lovely, too. Mortal at the moment, because she pissed off Zeus, but she's lovely."

Also, the goddess of peace.

She spoons some rice onto her plate and does the same with some curry before mixing it up with her fingers.

"Eep."

Pause.

"Zeus isn't in the bar, is he?"

It's not Sam's Zeus, of course, but still.

He spoons some rice and curry onto his plate before reaching for a fork.

"No. Demeter and Hades are, but they are the only ones from that bit of the family."

Now the reason for all the bread is obvious; she scoops her food onto some of the bread and eats hers that way.

She swallows her mouthful, and watches him for a moment.

"Aaah. So you are a cutlery person."

"Oh, good. I know it wouldn't be the same Zeus as mine, but your universe likes its doppelgängers. And he's liable to make me nervous."

Sam eats his own food delicately. "Afraid so. You get used to fitting in."

A flicker of a smile.

"You know, I remember...an old man in this village I was in. He said, eating with cutlery is like having sex through an interpreter."

Sam laughs, a lot.

"He may have a point. But it does work better with some foods than with others."

Chocolate, for instance.

[mycursedface]

"Mmmm. Still."

She's a fingers-girl, really, and has the practice to make it look neat. But then she thinks for a moment, nibbling as she does so.

"Although, I'm not sure how you'd eat spaghetti with your fingers, actually."

Solemnly, "Inventively."

[mycursedface]

Medusa giggles.

"Same for soup, I guess?"

(mmm, Bar's curry...)

"Ayep. Or you could be really messy and just drink it straight from the bowl, I suppose."

[mycursedface]

"You would need the right kind of bowl." Pause, another mouthful, chew and swallow and then pick up a small lamb cutlet.

"Or tongue. You could always...try and lap it up. Like a cat."

"My tongue is very useful," Sam chirps.

...No, he would never try to make Medusa blush. Don't be silly.

So, he wouldn't be at all smug at the way her cheeks turn crimson?

[necessary_child]

In no way, shape or form.

That's why he's not smirking, of course.

[mycursedface]

Medusa is just going to...eat in silence. That way any and all entirely innocent remarks cannot be used as verbal fodder in Sam's campaign against her.

Yes.

Sam doesn't need to say anything. That wicked look in his eyes as he eats pretty much says it all.

"You," she says at last (and after most of the meal has been eaten), "are terribly distracting."
