It's not dawn, not quite. The skies are grey and pink and fading from night fast, but it's not quite dawn. The world is waking up, birds and insects and the flowers, but Sam and Medusa aren't paying any attention at all.

Instead, the pair are still sitting on her father's granary, entirely wrapped up in each other.

This may not be an entirely wise idea...

The thing about Not Paying Attention? Is that it allows little sisters (for all Euryale is taller than Medusa), to stand there and smirk.

It also allows her to wolf-whistle before she's noticed.

Sam's arm is around Medusa, other hand cupping her chin. He debates ignoring the wolf-whistle, but suspects Meda would rather he not.

It's probably her family, after all.

"And I thought we were going to threaten him before you made out with him," a voice drawls. The owner is lean, tall(er), and her black curly hair is cropped short.

Medusa had been debating ignoring the whistle. Sadly, Stheno doesn't like being ignored, so she turns her head.

She is also noticably not moving out of Sam's arms.

"...can you just pretend you didn't see us?"

"Where's the fun in that?" Euryale asks cheerfully, stretching her gold wings.

"We can do invisible," Sam chirps agreeably, second hand now also sliding around Medusa's waist. "Or at least, I can."

And Stheno's eyebrows go up.

Medusa looks back at Sam.

"You can?"

[necessary_child]

"Sure I can. Like when we were off with Atton, remember?" He gives her a smile. "It's tricky, but possible."

"Oh. Yes, I remember."

"Is that when you came back dripping in blood?" Stheno's voice is cool and cool.

Medusa eyes her back, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes."

Stheno also gets a sharp elbow into her ribs.

"Anyway! You must be Lucifer. If you aren't, we'll have to yell at Meda for confusing us with too many boys at once, and that'll be sad and gives us all a headache. So, hopefully you are Lucifer. I'm Euryale, this is Stheno and it is Lucifer, yes? Or Sam? I'm confused."

Euryale finishes with a bright smile.

"But very much alive." Sam feels that this bit should be kept in mind. Mostly because he, too, would like to remain in that state.

"Either works." Sam grins back at Euryale. "Meda mostly calls me Lucifer, though. Pleased to meet you."

"Pleasure! And Lucifer it is, that's how she talks of you-"

"-shut up Ali!"

"-and so that's how you are in our heads."

Beat.

"However, you do realize that we have to talk to you, seeing as you have our darling sister's heart in your hand, so to speak?"

"Just a friendly talk." Stheno's smile is perfectly nice, all curved lips and bright, bright teeth.

Wryly, "I look forward to it, kind ladies."

He bows slightly to the pair of them, because Sam's had that kind of friendly talk before. Usually it seemed to involve one or more members of his family trying to kill him.

"...I'm witnessing," Medusa says flatly.

"Good. That way we don't have to rely the answers."

"First question!

What are your intentions?"

"Not to f- Not to screw up," Sam amends hurriedly.

"Mainly."

Euryale's gaze sharpens.

"So, you do not intend on marrying Medusa?"

"...Er, no. And I'm pretty sure she's got no intention of marrying me, either."

"Well, this isn't going to be fun," she complains in triplet.

Medusa smiles at her, serenely,

"Oops?"

"Meeeeeeeeeeeeda..."

"Why do you think I like him?"

"I'm sure I have no idea." Her dark gaze flicks back to Sam.

"In that case, Lucifer-who-calls-himself-Sam...what do you have to offer?"

"...Ummmm."

Pause.

"I'm hard to scare off or freak out and I'm not about to get old and die any time soon?"

She raises her eyebrows in unison with Euryale.

"Anything else?"

"Er... I'm good at not dying?"

"This does not make you unique," Euryale says, drily. She taps her fingers against her thigh, eyeing him thoughtfully.

"Although, you do realize that if you break Medusa's heart, we are going to hunt you down and-"

(This is the point that Medusa buries her face in her hands)

"Whilst I'm sure I'd taste fantastic -" and Sam hopes Medusa knows how much it cost him to not make a dirty joke there - "You wouldn't be the only ones, I think."

"Yes," Stheno says with a dreamy smile, "but we are the ones with claws and wings and a sister's right to jump the cue."

"So! Keeping this in mind...why do you think you are worth Meda's attention? And Meda, don't answer for him."

Medusa just gives him a crooked, amused smile. She knows, and is very, very thankful for it.

Pause.


"...I don't?"

This is mostly true; Sam has absolutely no idea quite why and how she trusts him.

Beat.

"But having got it, I have no intention of losing it lightly."

The sisters glance at each other.

Beat.

"Okay. Lucifer-who-calls-himself-Sam, care to join us for breakfast?"

Sam grins.

"Breakfast sounds good."
